TIRUCHI: The two-day Tamil Nadu State conference of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) commenced at Sanamangalam near here on Saturday.

Maulana Syed Jalal Uddin Umeri, all India president, JIH, in his presidential address said that Islam was not a blind faith, but guided believers in every walk of life and in solving problems confronting the society and political issues.

On the importance of Islam, Maulana Umeri said that Islam preserves the fundamental right of the people in all walks of life.

A. Shabeer Ahmed, Tamil Nadu zonal president, delivered the inaugural address.

Atiya Siddiqa, All India Nazima, JIH, highlighted the problems faced by women and cited some solutions. She said that social disorder prevailing in the society only showed that we have moved away from the right path.

An exhibition explaining the true concept of Islam and its glorious civilisation it gave to the world, formed part of the conference.

Maulana Umeri released a souvenir that was received by Abdus Samad, correspondent, AIMAN College of Arts and Science, here. Prominent leaders of the Jamaat, including Nusrat Ali, all India General Secretary, JIH, Professor Ejaz Ahmad Aslam, all India Secretary, JIH, Sheikh Mohammad Karakunnu, vice-president, JIH Kerala, I. Karimullah, Chief Organiser, JIH Tamil Nadu Conference, and K. Jalaluddin, Shura Member, JIH Tamil Nadu, participated.
