The ‘Budget’ pack comprising 33 items — pulses (5), oil (3), spices (7), daily use products (4), proteins (4), sanitary package (2) and cosmetic (8) — will be offered for Rs.666 against the market price of Rs.800. The ‘Premium’ pack will have 10 more items, in addition to those in the ‘Budget’ pack — Boost/Horlicks, mosquito liquid, atta, rava, maida, cashewnut, dry grapes, vermicelli, dates and toothbrush. It will be priced at Rs.999, against the market price of Rs.1,200.

“It is a small effort by us to offer essential commodities to consumers at reasonable prices. Only branded items will be packed and sold by us. We are also exploring ways to market these packages at select locations such as government offices, temples and other busy places,” S. Saravanan, Joint Registrar/Special Officer, TUCS told The Hindu. TUCS had for Pongal introduced a special pack, the response to which was good. It sold 24,000 Pongal bags and over 10,000 vegetable bags during the festival. “During the Pongal session, we got enquiries about our products from several people. Motivated by the success of our Pongal package, we have decided to come out with the two packages of essential items at reasonable price,” he said.
