‘Youth should be shown the right way’

Udhagamandalam: “Let us set an example to the younger generation by leading a disciplined life.” With this appeal to the society, the 147th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda and National Youth Day were celebrated under the aegis of the Manas Spiritual Forum here on Tuesday.

The venue was the memorial of Josiah Goodwin, stenographer of Swami Vivekananda, at the Saint Thomas Church.

Among those present were a group of students from the Government Arts College.

NSS Programme Officer of the college Azhagar Ramanujam presided.

Economic power

Addressing the gathering, senior lecturer at the college V.Athmajothi said that India was rapidly emerging as a major economic power because of the contribution of its youth. Underscoring the need to harness the energy of youth in a productive manner, he exhorted the youth to tread the right path.

He added that Swami Vivekananda had always been a role model for the youth.

Secretary of Public Awareness Association of Udhagamandalam G.Janardhanan said that youth should exude confidence.

Managing Trustee, Manas, V.Sivadass paid tributes to Mr. Goodwin.

President of Sri Ramakrishna Seva Sangam, Ooty, N.Joghee and Secretary, Saint Thomas Church, Nicholas also spoke.
