TIRUNELVELI: To create an awareness among the public of following road safety regulations and wearing helmets while driving two-wheelers, the Tirunelveli city police conducted a two-wheeler rally here on Thursday evening.
After flagged off by Tirunelveli City Commissioner of Police A.M.S. Gunaseelan at VOC Grounds, Palayamkottai, the policemen, wearing helmets, traversed busy Chellpandian traffic island, Tirunelveli Junction, Tirunelveli Town and other areas before reaching Exhibition Grounds.
Mr. Gunaseelan handed over masks and other protective gears to the police personnel involved in regulating vehicular traffic in busy and dusty areas.
An eye camp for truck drivers as part of 21st Road Safety Week on Thursday. Sterlite Industries in association with Regional Transport Office, Tuticorin, observed the Road Safety Week by organising the camp at Milavittan.
Totally two hundred drivers benefited through the camp.
Free spectacles and medicines were also distributed during the camp.
According to its release, Subbiah, Inspector of Police (Traffic) released the road safety awareness sticker in the presence of Thangavelu, Regional Transport Officer, Tuticorin, and Kalpesh Ved, Associate General Manager – Logistics, SIIL.
Mr.Subbiah also affixed awareness posters on road safety norms on the trucks.
R.Rajasekarapandy, Head, Corporate Social Responsibility, P.P. Markhs, Manager, Raw Materials and Export Logistics, and Meghnath Ghosh, Associate General Manager, Health, Safety and Environment were present.
