NAMAKKAL: Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare S. Gandhiselvan has called upon the poultry farmers to work together to ensure sustainable development in the poultry sector.
He was speaking after inaugurating the International Poultry exhibition and conference organised by Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University and the Veterinary College and Research Institute here on Friday.
The Namakkal zone is sending over 2.50 crore eggs to others States per day and stands second in the country in egg production. The district has also emerged as the transport hub and well known in the State for producing toppers in the Class X and Plus II examinations, he pointed out.
People from all sections of the society should work hard to make the district a model for others in the country. The Central and State governments were already implementing a number of development programmes. The governments would continue to provide all necessary assistance for the development of industries, including poultry sector.
Mr. Gandhiselvan assured the farmers that he would take steps to get more funds from the Central Government, if the college required it for the development of animal husbandry activities.
Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University P. Thangaraju presided over the programme.
Collector U. Sagayam, in his address, said that the district administration would provide all support for the development of the poultry sector.
National Egg Co-ordination Committee Zonal Chairman M.B. Desai, College Dean C. Chandrahasan, conference co-organiser S.C. Edwin and senior officials were present.
The exhibition will be held till January 10. The entry is free. A large number of products and technologies used in the poultry sector are on display. Researchers and academicians from various parts of the country and abroad are participating in the conference.
