RAMANATHAPURAM: Thousands of devotees on Thursday thronged Sri Mangalanathaswamy Temple at Thiru Uththirakosamangai on the occasion of Aruthra Dharshan, which marked the opening of ‘Maragatha’ Nataraja statue.

Amid chanting of mantras by priests, the Maragatha Natarja sannathi was opened.

Special prayer

After a special prayer, sandal was removed from the statue. Special pujas, including ghee, fruit, sandal and other abhisekams, were performed. Since the maragatha statue would be kept open for only a day, devotees made a beeline to get a darshan.

Many VIPs including IAS and IPS officers, judges and others visited the temple.

The Ramanathapuram samasthan temple administration led by Rani Raja Rajeswari Natchiyar and Diwan Mahendran made special arrangements for the festival.
