The dumping of waste including toxic substances in front of the site allotted for IT Park here on the Bangalore National Highways poses a serious threat to residents and road users.

Many tiny industrial units and hospitals have the habit of dumping their waste on both sides of the four-lane highways near the IT Park site forcing the residents of the area to suffer. Miscreants also set fire to the garbage heaps which in turn emanate foul and pungent smell causing respiratory problems. There are some educational institutions and schools functioning nearby.

“This has been a nightmare for long. We have been fighting with the authorities to keep the garbage cleaned periodically and also punish those who indiscriminately dump their waste,” says a resident at Mamangam.

Many also dump the construction debris indiscriminately.

A civic official says that despite repeated cleaning, some miscreants dump waste on either side of the highways. “Local residents and those who have their institutions alone should form monitoring squads to stop the menace of dumping further,” he points out. The residents of Mamangam have decided to form a citizens' forum to fight the menace, they say.
