Anonymous missive was sent to him through the post

Tirupur: Salarapatty Kuppusamy Kaarvendhan (Congress), Member of Parliament (Palani constituency) received a threatening letter at his residence at Dharapuram near here on Thursday.

Police sources said that the letter, without the sender’s name being mentioned, was received through post.


The letter stated that “efforts taken by Central Government to send a Union Minister to hold talks with his Sri Lankan counterparts to end the ethnic crisis in that country were welcome”.

“At the same time, if no solution was arrived at in the island nation, one of the four leaders - Kaarvendhan, Elangovan, Gnanasekaran, Thangabalu would be eliminated.”

The police said the letter was found to have been posted at Udumalpet and was opened by the personal assistant of the MP.

An inquiry was launched into the incident to bring further details to light.
