CHENNAI: The State Human Rights Commission has directed its investigation wing to probe an incident relating to the death of a three-year-old child who fell into a sump in the Corporation Middle School, MMDA Colony, Arumbakkam, on Wednesday.

Taking suo motu cognisance of a report published in The Hindu about the tragedy, a Commission Bench comprising the Chairperson, Justice A.S. Venkatachalamoorthy, and members, A.R. Selvakumar and S. Paramasivan, directed the Director of the Commission’s investigation wing to order a Deputy Superintendent of Police to investigate the matter and submit a report to the rights body in six weeks.
