Railway ticket checking staff, affiliated to Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU), staged a demonstration near the Divisional Railway Office here on Wednesday in support of their 11-point charter of demands.
The demonstration, led by E. D. Prakash, chairman, Ticket Checking Council of SRMU, appealed to the railway administration to create 387 new posts of Ticket Checking Inspectors in Madurai Division.
They said that ticket checking staff should not be asked to perform duty in more than two coaches in a train. The other demands included provision of better facilities for ticket checking staff in stations and food at subsidised rates.
