NSS volunteers honoured

Outstanding NSS volunteers were honoured with commendation certificates at the Independence Day celebrations at Government Higher Secondary School, Marungulam, Thanjavur district. T. Veeramani, headmaster, hoisted the national flag. Subas Chandra Bose, president of Parent-Teachers Association, presided. Ganesan, president of Marungulam panchayat, commended the service rendered by NSS. Prizes and certificates were distributed to SSLC and Plus Two public examination toppers of the school. S. Vivehanandhan, NSS programme officer, offered felicitations.

For a green world

The Naval Wing NCC cadets of Troop No. 14 V. S. Boys Higher Secondary School, Tiruvarur, celebrated Independence Day by launching saplings planting campaign. R. Killivalavan, head of the school, presided and M. Vaduganathan, correspondent, inaugurated the campaign. G. Sivaprakasam, assistant headmaster, R. Senthilkumar, district secretary of the Junior Red Cross, R. Sadeeshkumar, Associate NCC officer, were present.

Rotary Club donates desks

Rotary Club of Thanjavur donated 20 desks for classes VI and VII of TKR Government Aided Middle School, Thanjavur. Palanivelu, Rotary district governor, presented them. Balakrishnan, president, Rotary Club of Thanajvur, Ramanathan, secretary, assured to donate reverse osmosis water purifier to the school soon. Lenin, Assistant Rotary governor, was present. Kumar, headmaster, and Shanmugam, executive committee member, thanked Rotary Club.

I-Day celebrations

P. Mohan, station fire officer, was chief guest at the Independence Day celebrations at Muthuswamy Vidyalaya Matriculation School, Kulathur, Pudukottai district. He hoisted the national flag. S. Radhakrishnan, head of department, Biology, Indian School, Muscat, presided. Tamil Selvi Radhakrishnan, professor of Mathematics, was guest of honour. Oratorical, singing and dance competitions were held and prizes were distributed to winners. M. Sakthivel, principal, spoke.

Jayabarathan Chelliah, chairman, Mount Zion Educational Institutions, hoisted the national flag at the Independence Day celebrations at the Mount Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Pudukottai. Florence Jayabarathan, vice chairperson, gave the special address and J. Jonathan, principal, offered felicitations. Students spoke on the topic ‘my duties as a true Indian’ and presented poem on the topic ‘India is my breath’.

A.Sadakathullah, member, Thanjavur district Muslim Educational Association, hoisted the national flag at the Independence Day celebrations at Al’Ameen Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Kumbakonam. M. Kamaludeen, correspondent, presided. A. Jirgis, former president, spoke on sacrifices made by freedom fighters. S. Syed Abdul Subahan, principal, offered felicitations.
