CHENNAI: The screen read “zero principle.” Almost instantly “Ramalinga Raju,” one of the teams blurted out, even as the quiz master was beginning to read out the question. The audience roared in laughter.
It later turned out that the question was “Which car company follows the zero principle?” and a member of the audience got the right answer “Reva.”
Several such amusing moments that led to interesting trivia marked the regional round of the business and management quiz organised by the Steel Authority of India Limited here on Monday.
With corporate teams and student teams from B-schools fighting it out, two teams – one with Ramkumar Shankar and K. Deepesh Nanda representing the Sanmar Group and the other with S. Balamurugan and Pareekshith A.R., students of IBS, Bangalore, emerged winners and made it to the final to be held in New Delhi later this month.
From identifying “To educate, inform and entertain” as BBC’s mission statement to naming “Trinidad & Tobago” as the first international acquisition of L.N. Mittal, a range of interesting questions kept the audience and participants engrossed.
True to the spirit of the organisers, there was a ‘steel round’ and a few other general rounds, but what really had everyone on the edge of their seats was the last, rapid fire round.
Quiz master Jacob Kurian of the Bhilai Steel Plant kept the audience further entertained with his ready wit.
While it was all fun and a lot of learning, the two teams that proved their mettle looked the happiest, after making it to the national final.
