A total of 110 farmers took part in the one-day seminar on slatted goat rearing held at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) at Needamangalam on Tuesday.
N.Ravishankar, District Development Officer, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), inaugurated the seminar. He stressed the importance of integrated farming in the context of climatic change.
He said integrated farming can help in sustainable income generation. NABARD is giving subsidy for purchasing goats and for poultry. P.Kalaiselvan, Director, Extension, Tamil Nadu Agriculture University, stressed the importance of diversified seed farming.
He said that TNAU has developed C0 4 grass which could be given as feed to goats of slatted rearing. The grass can be harvested in 160 days of planting. A farmer can earn Rs.4 lakhs per acre by growing the grass and supplying as feed to goats.
Senguttuvan, Head of KVK, Needamangalam, said that slatted rearing of goats make them disease free and healthy. Farmers were taken and shown the demo units of slatted goat rearing at the KVK.
