Police have arrested five persons in connection with the murder of an anti-social element R. Piramaachi of East Aambur near Alwarkurichi in the district. Piramaachi, an accused in a triple murder case, was beaten to death by a group of villagers on Thursday evening. Police, who registered a case against 23 persons in this connection, picked-up a few of them for interrogation.
They found that Parameswaram, Murugan, Arumugam, Muthuraman and Harikrishnan, all from East Aambur were involved in the murder and they were arrested.
They had reportedly told the police that Piramaachi and his accomplice Manikandan, in an inebriated condition, were verbally abusing village panchayat president Eswaran and farmers’ association president Sattanathan. Even after repeated warning as the duo continued the tiradethe agitated villagers fearing Piramaachi and Manikandan might murder Eswaran and Sattanathan, had tied them to an electric pole and beaten them.
Piramaachi died on the spot while Manikandan was undergoing treatment.
Further investigations are on to nab the others who were involved in the killing .
