TAMBARAM: Three persons were killed in separate road accidents in different places in the southern suburbs of Chennai on Monday evening.

Traffic police said 40-year-old Veeramani of Pushpa Nagar, Nungambakkam, was killed on the spot when he was hit by a speeding Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus on Grand Southern Trunk Road in West Tambaram.

The victim, an employee of a screen printing firm, had come to Tambaram and was returning home. Police said he was crossing the road when the MTC bus, on its way to T.Nagar from Guduvanchery, hit him, killing him on the spot.

In another accident, V.Anitha (27) died on the spot when the scooter she was riding was hit by a lorry carrying liquefied petroleum gas cylinders near the Kathipara grade separator.

A resident of Tirumal Nagar in Poonamallee, she had visited a few temples in connection with Mahashivarathri and was returning home. Anitha swerved to the left to reach the road branching off from the GST Road towards Poonamallee, when the lorry hit her. She was thrown off the vehicle and fell, and died instantly, police said, adding the accident took place around 9.45 p.m.

Later in the night, a share autotickshaw was hit by a lorry on Medavakkam-Sholinganallur Road, killing one of the passengers. Sudalai Kumar (42) was among the five persons travelling to Medavakkam from Sholinganallur, when the lorry hit the vehicle. He was rushed to a private hospital nearby, where he died. Tambaram Traffic Police are investigating.

Succumbs to injuries

On Tuesday, a 42-year-old man succumbed to injuries in an accident which he sustained on Friday. Adhi Munisamy of Motilal Nagar, East Tambaram, was crossing GST Road near Perungalathur Railway Station when he was hit by an unknown vehicle.

He was admitted to Government General Hospital in Chennai for treatment where he died on Tuesday morning.
