Members of the Ambedkar Makkal Iyyakam staged a demonstration opposite the Collectorate here on Friday.
President of the organization S.K.Balasubramaniam who led the demonstration said that it was to draw the attention of the district administration to their demands.
Listing the demands he said that house site pattas should be given to casual labourers, widows and deserted women who do not have houses.
The marriage assistance scheme should be streamlined.
Eligible women should be given free sewing machines. Old age pension should be sanctioned without delay.
The procedure for getting welfare assistance should be simplified and vocational guidance centres opened in all the panchayat unions.
Since the population of Adi-dravidars and scheduled tribes was sizeable in all the six taluks of the district, land should be alienated for constructing houses.
