To create awareness among people about natural disasters caused by monsoon and its preparedness, Fire and Rescue Service personnel in the Salem division conducted demonstrations at schools, colleges, industries and at public places in the city recently. A senior fire personnel at the Sevvapet station said that with monsoon setting in, chances of flooding, houses getting marooned, building collapse or damage may occur. Hence to create awareness among the public, demonstrations were carried out by the personnel using modern gadgets. The public were informed not to touch any electric cables lying on roads during rainy season and not to take shelter under trees during lightning or thunder.
All fire safety measures should be undertaken at residential areas and officials concerned should be informed in case of emergency.
The vulnerability to calamity is studied and fire drills, mock alert drills to face any eventuality would be conducted, personnel added. The team recently carried out such demonstrations at tahsildar office in the city and at C.S.I Good Shepard Matriculation Higher Secondary School.
