: Here is good news for the entertainment-starved residents of Tirunelveli and Palayamkottai as the 45-days government expo is going to commence at Exhibition Ground, opposite Corporation complex on June 29.

Though the government exhibition was organized here once in two years till a few years ago during the Aani Car Festival of Swamy Nellaiyappar Gandhimathi Ambal Temple, the huge influx of visitors has forced the government to organize it every year. Moreover, the encouraging number of visitors and the attractive revenue the government got through these fairs have made it an annual feature.

Besides entertaining the visitors and giving them a new shopping experience, the purpose of conducting this expo is to popularize the welfare schemes of the State and the Central Governments and the achievements of various government departments.

Apart from the 17 government departments, the Tirunelveli Corporation, TWAD Board, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation etc., will set up their stalls in the expo. For the first time, Reserve Bank of India is also expected to establish its stall to tell the public about the services being extended by the nationalized banks.

“Good number of joy rides like giant wheel, tora-tora, Columbus etc. will be there. This time we’ve planned to introduce new rides in the amusement section, particularly to entertain the children,” said an official attached to the Department of Information and Public Relations.

Special arrangements have been made to check the quality of food stuff to be sold at the venue.

“As the visitors are very much particular about the quality of food, the way in which it is prepared, the ingredients, particularly the quality of the edible oil used to prepare the snacks etc., special arrangements have been made to monitor it throughout the expo,” the official said.
