10,000 hectares brought under SRI
ARIYALUR: A farmer of Tirumanur village in the district has registered the maximum yield of 7,400 kg of rice an acre through the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) technique during the season which concluded with the ‘Pongal’ festival recently.
The farmer, Gnanamani, who had raised CO-43 variety in his two-and-a-half acre field, had registered the highest yield in the district.
Collector R. Sudalaikannan, who earlier inaugurated the harvest at the ‘Harvest Day’ celebrations, said that about 10,000 hectares of paddy fields had been brought under the SRI technique in the district against the target of 14,000 hectares during the just-concluded season.
He appreciated the efforts taken by the farmer and appealed to the non-SRI farmers to emulate Gnanamani.
Joint Director of Agriculture (incharge) K. Sivakumar and MLA D. Amaramurthy were among those who were present.
