The glass pane of a car belonging to the Communist Party of India (M) town secretary Anbu Manavalan, was damaged when a group of supporters of the AIADMK picked up quarrel with them.
According to police, the CPI (M) cadre, led by Anbu Manavalan, were campaigning at Machuvadi area where Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was scheduled to reach in her convoy.
A group of AIADMK supporters raised objection to the campaign by CPI (M) cadre in support of the DMDK nominee.
In the ensuing melee, one of the AIADMK supporters alleged attacked Mr.Anbu Manavalan. Based on a complaint by Mr.Anbu Manavalan, the Ganesh Nagar police have registered a case. under Sec. 294 (b) of IPC and Sec. 3 of Prevention of Damage to Private and Public Property.
Cadre stage demonstrations
Condemning the above incident, the CPI (M) cadre staged demonstrations in Aranthangi, Alangudi, Ponnamaravathi and Gandarvakottai towns in the evening. The supporters of the DMDK too participated in the agitations. The District Executive Committee of the party has strongly condemned the incident. It charged the police and the Election Commission of acting in a partisan manner and turning a blind eye to the atrocities committed by the AIADMK men.
