CHENNAI: The Southern Railway Loco Works, Perambur, has obtained the “Occupational Health and Safety Management System Certificate (OHSAS) 18001:2007.”

S. Subramanian, General Manager, International Certification Services (P) Ltd. (ICS), Mumbai, handed over the certificate to Southern Railway General Manager Rakesh Chopra, at a function in Loco Works premises here on Monday.

Loco Works, Perambur, is the first workshop in Southern Railway to achieve the distinction of obtaining the OHSAS 18001-2007 certificate.

The achievement was possible due to dedicated co-operation of officials of the Railway Medical Department led by Chief Medical Director A. Elangovan, according to a Southern Railway press release.

OHSAS is an international health and safety system specification, which is intended to help the organisation to control or eliminate its occupational health and safety hazards.
