RAMANATHAPURAM: C. Manickavasagam, Controller of Examinations, Alagappa University has stressed the need for a movement to popularise research culture among the students and others.

Delivering a convocation address at the Government College for Women here on Wednesday, he said the number of scholars who received doctorate in research in the country last year was low when compared to those received in the United States of America, China, Brazil and others. As many as 23,000 and 16,000 scholars received doctorate degrees in the USA and China respectively. However, just 4,000 scholars got doctorate degrees in research in India last year. It showed that the research had not got the due attention among students.
