Summer courses

Summer courses for the academic year 2011-2012 began on April 19 at Kamak Nursery and Primary School, Tuticorin. Training in handwriting, origami, art and craft, embroidery, yoga and drawing was given by teachers to about 260 students. The works of participants were displayed on the last day, April 27, for their parents to view.

Coaching camp

A summer coaching camp on ‘Tune your mind' was inaugurated at Kshatriya Vidhyasala Higher Secondary School, Virudhunagar, on April 30 by R. Ravisekar, secretary. The camp, which will go on till April12, will focus on effective communication, goal setting, human relations, time management and leadership. Participants will also be provided training in meditation, yoga and computer operation. The treasurer, P. M. S. N. K. D. Rathinavel, and vice-president P. S. M. K. A. S. Rathinavel addressed the students at the inaugural session. The Headmaster, S. Chandramohan, welcomed the gathering and J. Prakash proposed a vote of thanks.

Wins championship

The 14-year-old Surya Raguraam of Dindigul emerged champion at the national level JK Tyre-MMS Rotax Rookie Cup 2012 car race held at MMS Kartainment Track, Hyderabad recently. Surya won three out of the five races to take his tally to 110 points in the Junior Max category (13-16 years) and won the trophy. “I got off to a poor start in the last race and thereafter I was trying to catch up,” said Surya. “I am happy that I showed consistency to emerge the champion.” Started his career at the age of seven in Gomer 40 BHP Karting for one year, he qualified for Minimax Karting -125 BHP. He also participated in many races at the national level.
