Looking for water

Forest Department personnel said the 4-5-year-old animal might have strayed into the field from the forest nearby areas looking for water and slipped into the empty well.

It was also injured on its back and legs in the process. The carcass was burnt after veterinary doctors conducted a post-mortem examination.

A deer was spotted in Manjalneerkalvai last summer.

Residents had then trapped it and handed it over to Forest Department personnel who released it into the reserve forest.
