Application for admission to engineering colleges in the State will be issued from May 11 to May 31, P. Mannar Jawahar, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University, Chennai said here on Saturday.
Speaking on the sidelines of the graduation day at Paavai Institutions, Mr. Jawahar said that issue of application forms for admission under the Single Window System for first year B.E./B.Tech. degree courses would begin at 58 centres across the State.
As many as two lakh applications had been printed. It would be issued from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.
A total of 1.6 lakh seats were available in 525 engineering colleges across the State and the number of seats would increase once Anna University receives new sanctioned list from All India Council for Technical Education. The cost of the application is Rs.500 for general category and Rs. 250 in the case of SC/ ST candidates, who had to submit permanent community certificate without attestation.
He said that counselling dates will be announced after consultation with the coordination committee.
To a question about current academic year placements, Mr. Jawahar said that around 88 per cent of the students were recruited by Information Technology companies and 12 per cent by core sectors. Infrastructure and qualified faculty were the main factors behind successful placements, he added.
