PENNAGARAM (DHARMAPURI): Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) would join the Third Front soon, CPI leader R. Nallakannu said here on Friday.
Mr. Nallakannu was here to participate in a conference on migrant people in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts.
He told reporters that people were frustrated with the capitalist policies of the Congress and non-secular policies of BJP and would vote for the Third Front.
He said farmers of Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts migrated to nearby states for employment. Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh did not provide any basic facilities to the migrant workers.
They also lost their ration cards and right to vote in Tamil Nadu.
Hence, the State Government should take necessary steps to ensure the welfare of the migrating people. About five lakh people migrated to AP and Karnataka for employment.
Mr. Nallakkannu said Tamil Nadu had the biggest chunk of waste lands in India. The government should make the lands cultivable and allot them to the migrants.
Tamilnadu Farmers Association members took out a rally. The Association organised the conference. M. Arumugam, district president of the Association, presided over the meeting. V. Duraimanikkam, state general Secretary, Deva Perinban, state executive committee member, CPI, N. Periayasamy, president, Construction Workers Association, N. Nanjappan, state president, Tribal People Sangam and others participated as special guests.
