The official demanded Rs. 8,000 to give three-phase connection

CHENNAI: Officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption arrested a Junior Engineer and a lineman of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board on charges of taking bribe at Perungudi here on Saturday.

According to sources, Muthukumaran of Perungudi approached Junior Engineer Dhakshinamoorthy for a three-phase connection to his residence.

The official demanded Rs. 8,000 as bribe to give the connection and insisted on a payment of Rs. 4,000 as first instalment.

Though the first instalment was paid, the TNEB sub-station staff took no steps to give the connection. When Muthukumaran asked lineman Rajagopal, he said the wiring work would commence only when he paid the second instalment of the bribe.

The victim lodged a complaint with the DVAC. A special team formed to investigate the case laid a trap and arrested Rajagopal and Dhakshinamoorthy after they took the bribe money of Rs. 4,000 from Muthukumaran, the sources said.
