CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said on Thursday that though he was aware that the MDMK leader M. Kannappan was quitting the party, he came to know that he was the reason behind this only on Thursday.

Mr. Karunanidhi said when he realised that Mr.Kannappan visiting him in hospital was the reason for the MDMK shunning him, he felt sad. (Mr.Kannappan later joined the DMK).

In a statement here, he said that when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was in hospital, Leader of the Opposition L.K.Advani enquired after him. Congress president Sonia Gandhi visited former Prime Minister A.B.Vajpayee to enquire after his health and wish him a speedy recovery.

“But, only here it is considered a sin to visit someone who is sick,” he said and added that when former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran was sick, he had written a series of essays titled “I am also praying.”

One was able to understand about people from incidents like these, he said.
