Foundation laid for 304 hostel buildings

CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday inaugurated 80 hostels, constructed at a total cost of Rs.25.20 crore, for students belonging to Backward and Most Backward Classes.

She also laid foundation for 304 new hostel buildings for students at a cost of Rs.95.76 crore at a function in the Secretariat.

Ms.Jayalalithaa also laid foundation for students' hostels, Directorate of Distance Education and auditorium on the Periyar University campus on a total outlay of Rs.9 crore.

Land for foundation

According to an official release, the State Government has decided to allot five acres to the Bharathamuni Foundation for Asian Culture at Pattipulam village in Kancheepuram district for the construction of a temple for Bharathamuni, who authored the treatise on Bharatanatyam. The Chief Minister handed over the order to renowned Bharatanatyam artiste, Padma Subramanyam, who headed the foundation.
