Those encroaching upon HR&CE Department lands being given basic amenities: Minister

ERODE: The Tamil Nadu Government has sanctioned Rs. 18 crores to improve and repair chariots of temples owned by the Department of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, said the Department Minister P.C. Ramasamy. He inaugurated a library, open air stadium and toilets on Monday at Chitode, constructed at Rs. 6 lakhs with Erode MLA Constituency Development Fund.

The Department owned 4.75 lakh acres in the State, and a few plots were encroached upon by over 22,000 people.

As they were from the economically weaker sections of the society, the Government provided them with basic amenities. The recently announced pension scheme for temple employees was the first of its kind in the country, he claimed.

Erode MLA K.S. Thennarasu, Perundurai MLA K.S. Palanisamy, Chairman, Erode Panchayat Union R. Sivakumar and others spoke.
