Two killed in accidents
TIRUCHI: Two persons were killed in road accidents in the district on Monday. In the first incident, Ramalingam of Pulivalam (50) died when a milk lorry hit him on the Tiruchi-Thuraiyur road at Thiruvellarai. Police said he was walking on the road when the lorry knocked him down fatally. In another incident, a private bus knocked down Selvam (38) of Navalpattu, a cyclist, fatally on Tiruchi-Thanjavur main road at Thuvakudi near here.
Lorry collides with van
Van driver Arumugam and loadman Sadaiyandi, hailing from Kadampuliyur in Cuddalore district, were killed in a road accident on the Tiruchi-Chennai national highway at Nedungoor Aseesapuram near Siruganur on Monday. Police said the van carrying cashew nuts was coming to Tiruchi from Panruti when a gypsum-laden lorry bound for Andhra Pradesh from Tuticorin collided head on with the van killing its driver and loadman. Another loadman who was injured was hospitalised.
The Assembly Committee on Public Accounts, headed by K.N.Lakshmanan, will visit Tiruchi on Tuesday. It would inspect some ongoing development works in the district and hold talks with officials, says Collector K.Nanda Kishore in a press release.
Members of the Puthiya Tamizhagam observed fast at Chinthamani here on Monday demanding withdrawal of murder case registered against the party founder Krishnasamy. The party's urban district organiser Bharathi Devendran led the fast.
The level at the Mettur dam stood at 117.62 feet on Monday. The inflow was 4,377 cusecs and the outflow 11,237 cusecs.
