MADURAI: The water level in the Periyar dam stood at 133.7 feet with an inflow of 309 cusecs and a discharge of 600 cusecs. The level in the Vaigai dam was 68.83 feet with an inflow of 394 cusecs and a discharge of 841 cusecs.
The combined Periyar credit stood at 8374 mcft.
The Commissioner of Police, Narinder Pal Singh, inaugurated Road Safety Week celebrations on Monday.
He flagged off an awareness rally at Goripalayam. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), S. Davidson Devasirvatham, and the president of Citizen's Association for Traffic Improvement in Madurai, M. Ammanullah, were present.
The city police have organised a series of awareness programmes to mark the Road Safety Week.
Grievance day meet
D. Babunath Malli, Superintending Engineer of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, Metro, Madurai, will convene a consumer grievance day meeting at Madurai North Division Office between 11a.m. and 1 p.m. on January 5.
Consumers residing at Tamukkam, Teppam, Munichalai, Arasamaram, Race Course, Sellur and Tagore Nagar areas can air their grievance at the meeting either in person or through petitions, according to a TNEB press release.
'Ulaga Jothi,' a first epic book on the Holy Bible, authored by Arut Kavingar Iraiarasan alias J. Jesu Raja, a retired Tamil professor in the American College, was released at a function here on Thursday.
According to a release, the book release function was organised by Prof. J. Jesu Raja Memorial Trust, which was recently established to mark the 30th memorial day of Prof. Jesu Raja.
