CUDDALORE: Cuddalore telecom division of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. will expand its Broadband Internet services to places such as Neyveli Township, Villupuram, Chidambaram and Tindivanam by March 2006, BSNL General Manager P. Chinnaiyan said here on Saturday.

In Cuddalore town, the service would cover Port area and Nanbar Nagar soon.

Of the 13,200 new applicants awaiting basic telephone connections, 9,200 had made payment and the others would get the connections before March.

Wireless on local loop (WLL) services would be provided soon for rural areas in the vicinity of Sankarapuram, Chinna Salem, Nagalur, Mel Malaiyanur, Brahmadesam, Maiylam, Anandapuram, Ilavanasurkottai, Chidambaram, Panruti, Cuddalore SIPCOT, Villupuram and Mugaiyur as basic telephony was not be possible.

As far as cellphone service was concerned, besides the existing 45 microwave towers, work on setting up 61 towers was progressing at a fast pace, and these would become functional before the end of the current financial year.

Sale of pre-paid cards had started and soon these would be available on demand.

BSNL had started the new "NetOne Internet service" which could be accessed by dialling the number 172222.

The subscribers could use their landline number as identification and create their own passwords.
