A total of 7,856 students are appearing for the exam
Udhagamandalam: The 2009 Plus Two examinations got underway in various parts of the Nilgiris district on Monday.
According to the Chief Educational Officer in-charge, P. Rajalakshmi, 7,856 students, including 5,398 in the Coonoor educational district and 2,458 in the Gudalur education district are appearing for the examinations. Among them are 4,044 girls and 3,812 boys.
Stating that the number of examination centres in Coonoor educational district was 23, she added that it included five in Coonoor, 10 in Ooty, four in Manjoor and four in Kotagiri. In Gudalur educational district, there were nine centres.
Pointing out that the Nilgiris revenue district had been divided into zones, she said that 38 flying squads had been formed in Coonoor educational district and 15 in Gudalur to ensure that the students do not resort to copying. Six custodial points had been formed to keep the answer sheets in safe custody.
Thirty-two officials had been appointed for distributing question and answer papers.
Security had been provided to each centre to prevent entry of unauthorised persons. Adequate number of officials had been drafted for examination duty.
Meanwhile, the police said that steps had been taken to prevent disturbances near the examination centres in the district.
Flying squads, headed by inspectors, had been formed to carry out surprise inspections.
