They broke into cell phone showrooms, money lender shops

TAMBARAM: The Chennai Suburban Police have arrested three youths who used to work as autorickshaw drivers during the daytime and break into houses at night.

Briefing reporters on Tuesday, Chennai Suburban Police Commissioner S.R.Jangid said following a spate of burglaries and break-ins in Avadi and Porur areas, a special police team was constituted under the supervision of R.Samuthirapandi, Deputy Commissioner of Ambattur district.

Following specific information, the team nabbed A. Sathish (21), I. Sadiq Basha (22) and S.Lakshmanan (28). Police said they had confessed to having broken into cell phone showrooms and money lender shops at these two places. The three men would travel around these places in autorickshaws, observe the movements of people in places that they had targeted strike and would break into the houses at night.

Gold jewellery weighing 20 sovereigns, silver articles weighing 2.5 kg, cell phones and cash, all valued at more than Rs.3 lakh were recovered from them, Mr. Jangid added.
