Tirunelveli: The centenary celebrations of Puthumaipiththan was recently organised at Tirunelveli by the Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers' Forum, in which over 500 writers from across the State participated to pay rich tributes to the great writer.

In the presentation sessions, poets P. Chelladurai and Aathavan Dhikshanya, writer S. Thamizh Chelvan and research scholars A.R. Venkatachalapathy and R. Sivasubramanian submitted research papers in the daylong celebration.

Two books - `Kaalaththin rekhai pathintha Puthumaipiththan kathaigal' and `Puthumaipiththanin samsaara bhandham' - were released on the occasion. The daughter of the writer, Dhinakari Chockalingam, writer Senthilnathan and MLA Nanmaaran, who took efforts to nationalise the works of Puthumaipiththan, research scholar A.R. Venakatachalapathy, who published them and the writer's kin, Azhagammal and Muthusamy, were felicitated.

The highlight of the celebrations was the engrossing caricatures of Puthumaipiththan by artist Pon. Vallinaayagam, which triggered wild reception from the audience.
