Even as the Mahatma is being hailed as the Father of our Nation, in Kulithalai, the status of a statue of the great leader has been source of concern for all right-minded citizens.
The prominent Gandhi statue in the Kulithalai bus stand, or whatever goes for it, stands encircled by numerous flag masts of political parties from his own Congress to the recent addition to politics, the Desiya Murpokku Dravidar Kazhagam. They verily form a barricade of sorts preventing the public, and the Mahatma, from getting a proper glimpse of each other. Several people have taken the issue to the notice of the authorities, who have preferred to look the other way. Perhaps, they have other overriding considerations.
