CHENNAI: Police have arrested Ezhumalai (47) on charges of cheating. According to the police, Ezhumalai, a resident of Mittimalmalli in Avadi who was working in the CRPF as an electrician, had promised 11 persons that he would get them enrolled as police constables.

Madurai Veeran, one of the victims, registered a complaint and Ezhumalai was arrested on Sunday morning. Ezhumalai is allegedly a habitual offender against whom five cases of cheating have been registered at the Avadi police station.

Driving school owner held

The owner and a driver of Mookambikai Driving School in Indira Nagar in Adyar were arrested on Saturday night following a complaint by an auto driver. According to the Adyar police, the owner, Chidambaram (48), and the driver, Yathi(32), were arrested after an auto rickshaw driver complained of being beaten up by them. On Saturday evening, Yathi had tried to attack the auto driver following a skirmish. The auto driver had confronted Yathi after the latter's attempt to knock down him and the auto rickshaw.

In response, Yathi and Chidambaram beat up the auto driver, who lodged a complaint with the police.

Youth killed

Youth on a two-wheeler was killed after a kite rope accidentally caused cut injuries on Sunday evening. Kothandaraman, 26, was on his two-wheeler on the Gemini Flyover when the incident occurred around 5 p.m. According to the police, the MBA graduate from Rangarajapuram in Kodambakkam, died on the spot.

Woman killed in accident

A 22-year-old women was killed when the car she was driving hit a bus on the East Coast Road on Sunday.

Seesha from Porur and Balaji, Deepak and Ganesh Krishnan were heading towards Kovalam when the accident occurred near the entrance to VGP around 2.30 p.m., said the police.
