One-day national workshop on April 11

Thanjavur: Clean Thanjavur Clubs (CTCs) will be formed in schools and colleges as part of the Municipal Solid Waste Management Project for Thanjavur Municipality.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at the second executive committee meeting of Clean Thanjavur Project held at Thanjavur Medical College here on Thursday.

The aim is to create awareness among students about clean Thanjavur and involve them in making it a reality, said N.Ramachandran, its President. A one-day national workshop on Clean Thanjavur will be conducted at Periyar Maniammai College of Technology for women on April 11.The meeting also resolved to conduct a two-day competition among schools and colleges. Meetings to create awareness among marriage hall owners and managers, poly clinic owners, employees and officers of Government and private offices, Hoteliers Association members will also be held. A website on Clean Thanjavur will be created.

The meeting also resolved to create awareness among people about the evils of burning garbage.

An appeal was made to people to convert garbage into fertilisers. R.Paranthaman, Member, Executive Committee, said that a meeting of headmasters of schools was covened on February one to create awareness among them and to involve them in the project. Awareness campaign was organised for the students of Indian Matriculation School on February 18, Kundavai Nachiayar Government Arts College on February 27 and Maruthu Pandiyar Arts College on March 7.
