Also promises community certificates to tribals

DHARMAPURI: The Hogenakkal Comprehensive Water Supply Scheme would be implemented if the DMK were voted to power, said Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam supremo M. Karunanidhi here on Saturday. Campaigning from his van, he said tribals were facing difficulties in getting community certificates in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts. The DMK would issue community certificates without delay to tribals in both the districts if returned to power.

`Scant regard for voters'

Mr. Karunanidhi insisted that in a democracy, a government should care for and respect the voters. But All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Jayalalithaa had scant regard for voters. ``Should she return to power? The answer lies in this election."

``Jayalalithaa never respected the alliance partners,'' he added.

`Ditched alliance partners'

In 2001, she came to power because of the alliance. But immediately after assuming power, she ditched the alliance partners and captured power, he alleged. on her own. Mr. Karunanidhi said that voters were asking what were all the benefits they would get were if the DMKwas voted to power. He assured that no harm would be done to voters. He said that Ms. Jayalalithaa was announcing new poll promises every day to return to power. If the AIADMKwas returned to power, it would be another regime of revenge against all sections of society. To avoid this, the people should elect the DMK, he said.

Earlier he campaigned at Kaveripattinam, Periyampatti and Matlampatti for Pattali Makkal Katchi candidates Mannan and Meghanathan.
