EMU train servicesCHENNAI: The Saturday pattern of EMU train services will be maintained on Chennai Beach-Tambaram-Chengalpattu suburban section this Sunday, a Southern Railway press release said.

Protest against illegal tapping of waterThe United Forum of Nanganallur Welfare associations sent a protest telegram to the District Collector, Kancheepuram against illegal tapping of ground water at Sunnambukolathur of Kovilambakkam Panchayat for commercial purposes.

Despite government orders banning it, over 500 lorries are allowed to tap water for commercial purpose, depleting the groundwater level, it noted.

Rajesh Kumar of the Raja Rajeswari Engineering College have finished in the second place at the Microsoft all India Student Project Programme held in Bangalore on Monday last. The project titled, `Computer for the Blind,' was undertaken by the team. The finals at Bangalore saw 20 projects presented by colleges across the country.

Escapes from custodyS. Arasu Kulanathan (42), who was arrested by the Narcotics Intelligence Bureau on charges of selling brown sugar, escaped from the Government General hospital here on Friday. Police said the arrested person was admitted to the hospital last month after he complained of some ailment. Initially he was taken to the Royapettah hospital from where he was shifted to the Government General hospital.
