IMFL shops to remain closed during pollsAll IMFL retail vending shops and attached bars and FL-2 to FL-10 (except FL6) bars in clubs and hotels in Chennai will be closed during the Assembly elections. An official release, quoting the Tamil Nadu Liquor Retail Vending (in shops and bars) rules 2003, said liquor should not be sold from 5 p.m. on May 6 (5 p.m) to May 8 (5 p.m) and on May 11. Severe action will be taken against violators, the release said.

Boy dies in accidentA nine-year-old boy, who had come to Thuraipakkam for a summer vacation, was crushed to death by a brick-laden lorry in a street off Old Mahabalipuram Road on Wednesday.
Thuraipakkam police identified the victim as G. Guna. A third standard student, Guna was a resident of Jafferkhanpet.
