CUDDALORE: Election Observer for the Cuddalore Assembly constituency Arun Singal, along with Revenue Divisional Officer Prabhakaran, on Saturday visited some polling stations to inspect the arrangements.

Mr. Singal discussed with officials the security arrangements and also interacted with people and ascertained their views on the elections. Later, he inspected the premises of the Periyar Government Arts College at Thevanampattinam which is one of the three counting centres in the district. He also visited Rasapettai.

With a view to familiarising the electorate with the functioning of the Electronic Voting Machines, Collector Gagandeep Singh Bedi has organised demonstrations in the district The revenue officials fanned out in the district to impart hands-on training to voters at Cuddalore, Panruti, Kattumannarkoil, Vriddhachalam and Thittakudi. A large number of voters, particularly first-timers evinced keen interest on the EVMs.

Withdraws papers

V. Premalatha, wife of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam founder Vijayakant, has withdrawn from the contest from the Vriddhachalam constituency. She had earlier filed as a substitute candidate to Mr. Vijayakant. Though her papers as an Independent were found to be in order, she withdrew her nomination.
