ERODE: The Rotary Clubs are doing yeomen service, and their accident care programme is very useful, said the Tamil Nadu Highways and Ports Minister, M.P. Saminathan.

One every 30 km

At the Rotary District Assembly meeting here on Sunday, the Minister said that the Rotary Clubs had formed an accident care unit every thirty km on the National Highway, and there were 28 units in the State. In the case of any accident on the National Highway, an ambulance was sent to the spot at once.

National Highway roads for 4,500 km were being converted into four lanes, in a phased manner. In Erode district, the works had begun to convert the National Highway from Chengapalli to Komarapalayam to a four-lane. The Minister hailed the service rendered by the Rotary Clubs during the pulse polio scheme. The Handloom and Textiles Minister, N.K.K.P. Raja, said he would ensure steps for developments in the district.

The Rotary Clubs representatives from Rotary District 3200, comprising Erode, Coimbatore, Palakkad and Kochi, participated. The Adithya Masala Managing Director, Pradeepa Podar; Kangeyam MLA Vidiyal S. Sekar; and Rotary District governor-elect Babu Joseph spoke.
