Senior citizen seriously injured after being hit by motorcyclist Cattle kept on the Velachery Main Road also a threat

TAMBARAM: A 21-year-old youth died on the spot after falling from the motorcycle he was riding with three friends at Medavakkam on the Velachery Main Road on Thursday morning. Pallikaranai police identified the victim as R. Vasantha Kumar of Kamarajar Nagar, Perungulathur. The youths were on their way towards Medavakkam from Tambaram.

Near the Medavakkam junction, the driver braked hard to avoid a herd of cattle near the median. In the process, he lost control of the motorcycle, which skidded, and resulted in Vasantha Kumar's falling off. He sustained head injuries and died on the spot, police said. The three other youths suffered minor injuries and are undergoing treatment. Police said the motorcycle was driven at high speed. The accident took place around 5 a.m.

Many areas of the Velachery Main Road connecting Tambaram with Saidapet via Mevakkam and Pallikaranai do not have sufficient lighting. Cattle perched near the median pose risks for motorists even during the day.
