Information technology is playing a vital role in every field. Since the functioning of software always depends on hardware there is great future in this field, said A. Kalanidhi, former Vice-Chancellor of Anna University, while inaugurating a skill training programme in computer hardware at Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering, Krishnankovil.

Inaugurating the 12-week programme, organised by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell of Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering and National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board, Mr. Kalanidhi urged the students to equip themselves with necessary knowledge to attain their vision. He pointed out that the educated population should contribute their mite to make the country a super power.

A three-week summer training programme on `Techniques of modern biology' for students of biological sciences, organised by the Department of Biotechnology of Sri Kaliswari College, Sivakasi, was inaugurated on Wednesday.

The programme would deal with techniques in emerging areas of modern biology such as molecular genetics, DNA technology, analytical bio-chemistry, plant cell, tissue and organ culture and immunology.

Students drawn from various colleges are participating in the programme.

A meeting of the student branch of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at National Engineering College was held on the college premises at Kovilpatti recently.

Delivering a special lecture at the meeting, K. V. Nambi, counsellor of Indo-American Academy in Chennai, spoke on higher education and career opportunities available for electronic and electrical engineers in India as well as in the United States of America.
