TIRUNELVELI: Short-term and medium-term loans, availed by farmers from Primary Agricultural Cooperative Banks and long-term loans availed from from Primary Agricultural and Rural Development Bank to the tune of Rs. 119.93 crore have been waived in the district.
Under the short-term loans availed by 33,844 farmers, Rs. 65.22 crore, including Rs. 51.89-crore principal and Rs. 13.33-crore interest has been waived, and medium-term loan of Rs. 13.07 crore, including Rs. 8.75-crore principal and Rs. 4.32-crore interest drawn by 10,727 farmers, was given up.
Under the long-term loans, availed by 8,514 small / marginal farmers and others from Primary Agricultural and Rural Development Bank to the tune of Rs. 41.64 crore including Rs. 22.17-crore principal and Rs. 19.46-crore interest has been relinquished.
"Totally, agricultural loans to the tune of Rs. 119.93 crore availed by 53,085 farmers, who have to pay Rs. 82.82 crore as principal and Rs. 37.12 crore as interest, has been waived," said the Collector, G. Prakash, who handed over loan waiver certificates to a section of beneficiaries during farmers' grievance day meeting held here on Friday.
District Revenue Officer G. Loganathan and Joint Registrar of Cooperative Banks M. Sivasekaran were present.
