CHENNAI: Prominent drama artists and troupes were honoured at the "17th Kodai Nataka Vizha" of Kartik Fine Arts here on Thursday.

Prizes were distributed to actors, storywriters and other technicians on the occasion.

Chairman of the Kartik Fine Arts L.Sabaretnam, who distributed the awards to the artists, said the sabha had so far staged 155 dramas in the festivals and all of them were new plays.

Industrialist Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetti presided.

Dramas based on social themes always received good response from the audience, he said.

He appealed to drama troupes to stage plays based on such themes.

T.V.Varadarajan of United Visuals speaking on behalf of drama troupes thanked the sabha for encouraging drama troupes.

S.Ve.Sekhar, MLA, appealed to the sabha to consider giving pension to indigent drama artists.
