Jayakumar plays quiz master, sings along with children

Chennai: "Who discovered television?" "What is the smallest unit of life called?" "Who discovered the law of gravity?" These were not questions by any quizmaster, but by the former Minister and Royapuram MLA, D. Jayakumar, to students of a Corporation school.

Not stopping with the middle school students, he sat amid the kindergarten section and asked the children to sing nursery rhymes and sang along with them.

As G. Suresh, J. Nandakumar, M. Indumathi and several other students readily came up with answers, Mr. Jayakumar gave them Rs. 100 as a prize.

He was distributing free uniform materials to the students on the AIADMK's behalf.

He said that 2000 sets of uniforms, costing Rs. 3 lakh, were distributed to students of the Corporation Middle School, Pudumani Kuppam, Royapuram; Corporation Middle School, Vinayakapuram, Tondiarpet and CSI Rajagopal School, Royapuram. The total cost of the uniforms was Rs. 3 lakh. The MLA was popular among the students, who thrust their notebooks for his autograph.

"When our Government was in power, we had developed two big parks and five to six minor parks in the Royapuram area and planted 7,000 trees.

But today, they are languishing due to lack of maintenance," Mr. Jayakumar said, pointing out that they would continue to do their work with public support.

The school building in Pudumanai Kuppam is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 70 lakh, and the one in Vinayakapuram at Rs. 56 lakh, the former Minister said.
