COIMBATORE: It is all about instilling an interest in environmental issues among children. To simplify the task of teachers in this, the Centre for Environment Education (CEE) has brought out a handbook on environmental education for teachers of Class VI to VIII.
The book follows the new syllabus framed by National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and the syllabus covers environment, natural resources, energy, waste and pollution. "The idea behind weaving the contents of the syllabus around these themes is to facilitate the teacher to introduce these themes in a graded manner, in these three classes," says N. Ramjee, Scientist In-Charge of the CEE, Tamil Nadu.
The syllabus also includes activities and projects. The teachers are also advised to encourage students to take part in field trips. The book has been priced at Rs. 150 and will be available at the CEE's office on Avinashi Road. For details, contact: 0422- 2215885.
